Retired Life as opposed to thug life

I am in the midst of some major life decisions.

Important things that retired people mull over. For example, my best friend has a Christmas Eve party every year. It’s fun to get together and hash over the events of the past year with our little band of four couples and our kids. This year, since I’m retired, I feel like I should do more than just make salsa and buy Fritos. I should look like I have time to amazing things. I am planning a charcuterie tray.

Now to save you time, charcuterie is just a bunch on nibbles arranged in an artsy way on a board or tray. It looks like something I can handle. I even learned how to say it.

Next on the list was what to do for the upcoming Halloween party. Hubby is not as into the whole costume thing as I am, so I had to handle this for both of us. The problem got solved when I came across a perfect couples costume for us. More on that after the party. I don’t want to ruin the surprise for masses at the event.

Note that in the midst of all of these major decisions, I am freshly returned from a trip to Florida to see child number two. We went by train. I’m finally learning to sleep on a train. (Thanks to Melatonin) I don’t arrive looking like I rode in a boxcar across country. So many people have chided me over my lack of enthusiasm over flying. It may be safer than driving, but I’ve never fallen 30,000 feet out of my Subaru.

I was greeted in Florida by my family members living in this strange land and 4,379,546 mosquitoes. In one week I got bitten more that all summer in Pennsylvania…and I live by a creek! I also got some poison ivy type thing going on by my ankle. I may be allergic to the South.

But one thing I will tell you, the restaurants down there are fantastic! I am now a fan of grilled oysters. Who knew?

I left my latest project at home. I am working on a wrap made on a knitting loom. I can crochet like crazy, but give me two needles and injury is bound to occur. The loom removes one needle and seems to be pretty successful as for turning out and actual product. Let’s see how I feel when it comes time to cast off.

Still rocking my psych class, cozy mystery novel, closet cleaning project and a host of other little side stuff. Retirement is not for the person expecting rest and relaxation! There’s just too much to do!
